Joy Dunlop is an old favourite of ours at TRADtv. Hey — less of the old! No, we don’t mean it like that… anyway, this performance shows of her expressive voice and approach to Gaelic song which is at once technical and passionate. Joy has a lifelong fascination for Gaelic music and song. She’s a champion for the medium, and her enthusiasm is infectious.
She recently released her album Caoir, garnering great reviews and coverage. The album, and this performance, features a larger band than you may have seen her with before, and a big, full, rockier sound. We got right into it!
This performance was part of Showcase Scotland, an industry showcase of musical excellence from different nations that celebrates and champions artistic talent.
TRADtv was invited to film this, and a selection of other fantastic performances, as part of the world famous music festival, Celtic Connections, celebrating folk, traditional and world music from all around the globe.
